The Annual Review of the International Colour Association (AIC) is a prestigious, peer-reviewed Diamond Open Access publication, released every March. It plays a vital role in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, sharing research, and promoting innovation across all fields related to colour. Since its inception in 1986, the publication has documented key activities from AIC’s global network of Regular Members, Associate Members, Study Groups, and other international colour initiatives.
In 2022, the AIC commissioned a complete redesign of the publication’s visual identity. The goal was to create a contemporary, cohesive design system that could unify the series while allowing each annual volume to stand out on its own.
To address this challenge, I developed a structured colour strategy rooted in the AIC’s core values. Each volume features a pair of carefully selected hue families, designed to evolve year by year while maintaining consistent visual contrast and application logic. This ensures clarity, accessibility, and visual coherence across the series, while also providing flexibility for future expansion.
