Colour Literacy Project – Educational Research

The colour issue: How to update colour education for 21st-century needs?

Colour Literacy | Colour Education | Epistemological Research

The Colour Literacy Project (CLP) is a global research initiative launched in 2020, funded by the International Colour Association (AIC) and the Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC). Its mission is to update and improve colour education worldwide by positioning colour literacy as a meta-disciplinary field that bridges science, the arts, and the humanities through experiential and research-based learning.

Since its inception, I have been deeply involved in the CLP—first as a Consultant (2020–2021), then as a Steering Committee member (2021–2024), and currently as one of four Core Team members (since 2025). I also lead the Research and Outreach Team.

My main contributions to the project focus on post-secondary education and the creative industries. I identify and articulate contemporary needs in colour knowledge for design and related fields, developing theoretical frameworks and capacity-building strategies that support modern, practice-relevant learning. As part of this work, I have designed original methodologies and practical tools—including the Colour Safari and the Colour Meaning Matrix—to help learners explore colour through experiential learning and critical thinking. I am also a co-creator of the Colour Literacy Forum, a recurring international online event that has hosted over a dozen editions. This forum brings together experts and educators to share insights, methods, and emerging perspectives on colour education.

In addition, I curate the CLP’s outreach and dissemination efforts, helping to shape how colour literacy is communicated and shared with broader audiences. This project reflects my deep commitment to evolving the role of colour in education, communication, and design.

Commissioners: International Colour Association (AIC), Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC, U.S.A).

Project Team: Currently, the CLP has around 30 volunteer members from 10 countries. See the team.
